Adjusting.

September 28, 2008 - 8:30 am No Comments

DD1 had a nightmare tonight. She woke up crying and spent a good little while sitting next to me, looking sad and disturbed. I asked if she wanted to tell me about her dream and she explained that she had been in a room with stickers all over the wall. She showed me with her hands all the places the stickers were. Then she said she tried to go take a nap in the sticker room but creepies came up under the door, filled the room and covered her.

I asked, what kind of creepies and she made a spider motion with her hand.

So I asked, “do you mean spiders?

And she nodded her head and replied, “only scarier.”

:(

I can’t sleep either.

Another Mass Update

September 23, 2008 - 5:54 pm No Comments

I’m resigning myself to the fact that I am a horrible blog updater. I wish it wasn’t so. Anybody remember the days when I used to updated daily? Sigh, those where the days. Now I’m lucky to shower daily.

Don’t worry, I took a bath this morning. Besides, you can’t smell “stale mommy smell” across the internet. At least, I’m hoping you can’t.

;)

(Oh, wait! Did I ever tell you the story about DD3 pooping in the bath? And then the next day she tried to do it again? Except I put her on the toilet instead and she pooped in the potty! Woot!)

Anyway, as mass updates go this one may be lengthy. So bear with me.

First of all, my youngest daughter turned one on the 14th. Can you believe it? Seriously, she’s ONE! And for a one year old, she’s quite the smart little cookie. Already speaking in sentences “I no want it” and “Das mine ball!: She is already running and just the other day she almost did a somersault all on her own.

She follows her older sisters around. A virtual shadow to their antics. Everything they can do, she’s certain that she can do better. Or at least just as well.

And you have to watch yourself around her because she really pays attention. Earlier today I saw her trying to use a crayon to pry the plastic outlet protectors off the electrical outlets. Thankfully she chose a crayon to do her deed and not something more “pryable.” I took the crayon from her and she gave me a scowl, a finger wag, and a very determined “no no no.”

She finally has two more teeth coming in to match her two bottom teeth. Earlier this evening she kissed me on the cheek and then tried a test “bite.” No sooner did she bite down, then she started crying out of sympathy for my pain. Such a little stinker and sweety all rolled up in one lovable, huggable, adorable darling.

In other news, we went to the Plano Balloon festival again. I wish I had pictures to post. Except, I don’t. Silly me left my camera at my moms. I’m so annoyed. You’ll have to just imagine it. Lots and lots of balloons and tons and tons of people. Way more crowded than last year, but still cool.

I also joined the local homeschool association. I did that today. Sent in the application and check just now. I’m feeling quite proud of myself. I even marked the next meeting on my calendar and plan on attending.

Speaking of associations. I also want to join the local Foster Parent Association. I haven’t sent that check in though. I think I’ll wait until next pay day. One association at a time. Ya know.

And since we’re on the topic of fostering, DFS1 got some big news this week. I can’t share it, due to privacy reasons. But just want to say a huge “Praise God, Hallelujah” and just ask that you keep his future in your prayers.

DD1 is also doing lots of stuff. She is currently in dance AND soccer. She had her first game last Saturday and hated/loved it. We’ll see how this next Saturday goes. We also took DD1 in for an evaluation for SPD. We should go in sometime in the next week to get the results.

DD2 is still in Speech. Although she is doing sooo much better and may graduate herself out of the program before her third birthday. She’s now speaking in sentences and is working harder at forming her words. She still can be difficult to understand when she’s A) being self conscious or B) excited. But we’re working on that.

As far as myself… There isn’t much to say. I keep balancing life with four kiddos. Each week I wonder at how a person finds time to do things that are important, for themselves. Things like work out regularly or enjoy personal enrichment activities. I’ve decided my mission in life is to surround myself with mentors. Women who have been in my shoes and who have wisdom to offer. (Hense my joining the Homeschool association and my plans to join the Foster Parenting association.)

I have to add, that I wrote this entry last night and then went to bed before submitting it. This morning DD3 woke up dry, so I put her on the potty and she peed in the potty! How fantastical is that!

In the words of my good friend Leta, “Peepee in the potty! Peepee in the potty!”

Because I’m a sucker for punishment,

and because I don’t know how to tell when too much is really too much… I’ve decided to participate in NaNoWriMo. One of the rules for NaNoWriMo is to tell everyone that you plan on writing a Novel in November. That way, according to the rules, it will be “the only thing keeping you from quitting is the fear of looking pathetic in front of all the people who’ve had to hear about your novel for the past month.

So there, I’ve said it out loud.

And now I’m wishing November was here already. I’m also wishing this week wasn’t so stinking busy, because I’d love to start today.

Babywearing VP?

I try to keep this blog fairly politically neutral. At least in the sense that I don’t usually discuss upcoming elections and/or candidates. However, I just couldn’t let this image pass:

There’s just something very cool about the idea of a babywearing, breastfeeding vice-President. Now, if only she homebirthed…

We’re serving “gross” for breakfast.

September 9, 2008 - 1:19 am No Comments

Several months ago, DD1 was battling a stomach bug and threw up all over her breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast. Since that incident, I have not been able to get her to eat scrambled eggs. Despite her reluctance, I continue to offer them as an option.

So, last week I asked her if she wanted scrambled eggs or boiled eggs. She quickly declared, “Boiled!”

I offered her two year old sister the same option. “Scrambled or boiled?”

Thinking to help me, DD1 bent over and clarified to DD2 for me, “Do you want gross eggs or boiled eggs?”

I wish I weren’t so busy…

Because there is just so much going on around here that blogging about it after the fact, is proving to be quite the task. So in bulletin form, here are the accomplishments so far:

- My sister’s baby was born Sept 2nd after 44 hours of labor and 2 hours of pushing. The baby is beautiful. Of course.

- We are almost finished with the bathroom and the bunkbed rails are painted and ready to install. So many almost completed projects, my head is spinning.

- Next week DD3 turns one. Yes. ONE. ‘Nuff said.

- DFS1 is almost four months old and may be moving soon. We’re sad and excited. If that’s even a possible mixture of emotions.

- Dh has been working 80 hour work weeks. Thank you Hurricane Gustav for stealing our vacation.

- My home is in disarray, due to all the incomplete projects. I have exactly one week to fix this mess before the big birthday bash commences.

- DD1 has started preschool. Can you believe it? We’re doing homeschool, and are focusing on “farms” right now. I’ll have a lengthy update about that some time. Promise.

- We caved and hired lawn men. At least until things settle down around here. Meanwhile I want to spend all day staring at my lawn. It’s the only place around here that is “in order.”

- Sometime after all the current projects are complete I’m going to rearrange my kitchen drawers.

- And I need to start on Halloween Costumes. Any suggestions?
