My Favorite New Desert

March 22, 2008 - 8:20 am 2 Comments

I saw this in FamilyFun magazine and had to try it. The first time I made it I made it with Texas Grapefruit, fresh Strawberries and Blueberries. This time the store was out of blueberries so I tried it with Texas Grapefruit, Strawberries, and a Mango.

Just slice up your fruit, and dish them into pretty glasses using a slotted spoon. Once you have your glasses filled, top it off with sparkling juice. For this drink I used sparkling grape juice, but have used sparkling cider with as much success.

The whole thing is so simple to make and feels like such a special treat. If I were Martha, I’d call it a “good thing.”

Square Foot Gardening

I’ve talked about it for years, but have never quite been in the right space to do it. This year, it’s on. I’m doing a garden. I’ve already got my seeds started. The list includes cucumbers, squash, zucchini, peas, peppers, lettuce and two kinds of tomatoes. My cucumber and squashes are already ready to be transplanted.

So, today Dh and I spent a few hours in the yard. We cleared out the area we’re going to use, laid down our mulch paper, our square foot frame, filled the frame with dirt, and bolted down our lattice work. We still need to edge about three foot around the garden and put down mulch. But as a whole I’m really thrilled. I can hardly wait to move my plants out.

Little Bits

It’s apparent that life has stepped in and interrupted any and all attempts at blogging on my part. I feel awful neglecting this place, but let’s be honest. Sometimes something has to give. And right now it’s my journaling.

However, in attempt to update I thought I’d share what’s happening on this end. Firstly, I cut my hair on Saturday. It’s now Tuesday and Dh hasn’t noticed yet. You’d think if a person cut a foot of hair off, that their significant other would notice! Sheesh. I tell you what, he did notice that I refilled the sugar jar with sucunat. Ha! We’re seriously going to have to sit down and discuss priorities. lol.

Yesterday I planted three of the trees that I got from the arbor day foundation. The girls and I also found a baby bunny in our yard. I later took my mom out to show her, and the bunny had died. We have no idea what happened to it. My guess is that maybe someone stepped on it, or the neighbor killed it, or maybe it ate lawn grass that had been treated in herbicides… who knows really.

Last week I had a newborn photoshoot. I’ve been super busy trying to tie up all the last little bits of post-processing. All and all I’m really satisfied with the shoot. It’s so different when you shoot other people’s children. In some ways it’s easier, and in other ways it requires a little more ingenuity.

We also turned in all of our FP paperwork. Still need to do some footwork for it. But really, getting that done was a HUGE monkey off my back.

Oh! DD3 is now 6 months old. She had a little taste of sweet potato last night and absolutely loved it. I need to mention that she is really great about getting on all fours. She can go from sitting, to all fours, to lying down, back to all fours. She’s figuring out how to get back into a sitting position and today she figured out how to lunge her self around the room. It’s really quite adorable. I should try to get it on camera.

DD2’s speech therapy is going really well. We’ve figured out that she struggles making “Guh” or “Kuh” sounds and we’re working with her on using words that change consonants and vowels (ie “Money.”)

Add to all that we’re smack in the middle of Financial Peace University. And Dh is working insane amounts of over time.

Needless to say, we’re doing really well. Even if we are crazy busy.

Oh! I wanted to add this little bit of trivia:

On the day we were born the number one hit song was:
Dh - “Tragedy” by The Bee Gees
Me - “Babe” by Styx
DD1 - “Hey Ya!” by OutKast
DD2- “Stand Up” by Ludacris featuring Shawnna
DD3 - “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” by Soulja Boy Tell’em
